How Does a Desiccant Dehumidifier Help?

Benefits of a Desiccant Dehumidifier in Cold Storage

HOW DOES A DESICCANT DEHUMIDIFIER HELP?

Industrial dehumidifiers provide the best long-term solution for combating moisture control issues.

Desiccant dehumidification reduces the humidity levels in cold stores and process freezers which contribute to condensation and frost. This is done by introducing dry air into the cool room and extracting the wet humid air.

A desiccant dehumidifier will make the environment safer and more sanitary – floors will stay dry, ceilings will not drip and doors without ice build-up will seal properly.

Dehumidification will also increase the efficiency of your refrigeration system as it will not be labouring under increasing defrost cycles caused by condensation and ice build-up.

HOW DOES A DESICCANT DEHUMIDIFIER WORK?

Desiccant dehumidification works by passing air through a rotating desiccant wheel that extracts moisture. The wheel is coated with a hygroscopic material such as silica gel, which naturally absorbs water vapour, similar to the small packets found in new shoes or electronics.

As the wheel rotates, a small section moves through a regeneration zone. In this portion the desiccant is heated and the moisture is released and ducted out from the space. The reactivated section then returns to the process airstream to absorb more moisture.
