Reliable Dehumidification at Cooling Brothers Glass
From Old to Optimised: Cooling Brothers Upgrade with Humiscope DEHUMIDIFIER Solutions
THE CLIENT
Cooling Brothers Glass is one of Australia’s leading innovators in architectural and commercial glass. With advanced facilities in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, they produce energy-efficient, decorative, acoustic, and safety glass solutions for residential, commercial, and large-scale architectural projects. Their reputation is built on quality, precision, and a commitment to innovation.
THE SITUATION
At their Perth facility, Cooling Brothers manufacture laminated safety glass, which requires precise, moisture-free air to ensure strong adhesion between glass sheets and interlayers. Even minor variations in humidity can compromise lamination quality and increase product rejects.
To maintain these conditions, the lamination environment must be carefully controlled at 22°C and 20% relative humidity. Cooling Brothers had relied on two desiccant dehumidifiers for this purpose, but both units were over 16 years old and had become unreliable - especially during Perth’s very hot summer days.
“The old unit was getting unreliable on our very hot summer days, and it was 16 years old,” explained Ross from Cooling Brothers.
Complicating the challenge was Perth’s limited access to local suppliers of dehumidification systems. Any solution would need to be shipped in, making strong communication and technical expertise from the supplier a vital part of the decision.
THE SOLUTION
Cooling Brothers partnered with Humiscope for the upgrade, based on the expertise and support demonstrated from the very first conversation.
“I chose Humiscope based on my phone conversations with their team, and I was impressed with their strong product knowledge. I’m a firm believer in first impressions and gut feelings, and on both fronts Humiscope ticked all the boxes,” said Ross.
After assessing the site and requirements, Humiscope recommended and supplied two new TFT desiccant dehumidifiers.
TFT AD3500 desiccant dehumidifier
TFT AD1250 desiccant dehumidifier
Both units were dispatched from our Gold Coast operations along with:
Technical drawings of the units and ducting
An installation manual to support in-house setup
The Cooling Brothers team handled the installation and reconfigured their existing ducting.
“As a builder-fabricator jack of all trades, I didn’t have any issues with reconfiguring the roof space area and the platform it was mounted onto,” Ross said.
COMMISSIONING THE DEHUMIDIFIERS
To ensure the systems were set up correctly, Humiscope Director and Technical Expert John Morgan travelled to Perth to check the installation and commission both units.
Ross also highlighted the importance of communication in their decision-making:
“Here in Perth, suppliers of dehumidification units are limited, as the climate is generally dry and the demand for these systems is lower. Regardless of which supplier we selected, the unit would need to be flown in, and we would be relying heavily on the supplier’s ability to communicate clearly over the phone to help us troubleshoot and resolve any issues. This made effective communication a critical factor in our decision-making, and it’s an area where Humiscope stood out.”
With the new dehumidifiers commissioned and running, Cooling Brothers are now equipped with reliable, efficient systems ready to maintain production quality and tackle Perth’s toughest conditions.
