Introducing Magnus Kahl Seeds
Magnus Kahl Seeds required a dedicated controlled environment for the onsite storage of seed.
The storage room needed to maintain consistently low temperature and humidity conditions while also providing flexibility for future site requirements. A moveable cool room was ultimately selected as the preferred approach.
Humidity control was a critical part of the design, helping provide a stable storage environment regardless of changing ambient conditions outside the room.
THE CHALLENGE
Magnus Kahl Seeds needed to maintain stable temperature and humidity conditions for seed stored within a refrigerated environment.
Initial discussions explored several options, including a complete containerised storage room. As the project developed, Magnus Kahl Seeds elected to source the cool room separately and integrate a Humiscope dehumidifier into the completed room.
The solution needed to provide reliable humidity control alongside refrigeration while allowing sufficient space for the stored product and effective air circulation throughout the room.
The room would ultimately store more than two tonnes of seed, making consistent environmental conditions an important part of maintaining suitable storage conditions for the product.

THE SOLUTION
Humiscope worked with Magnus Kahl Seeds during the planning process to determine the humidity control requirements and identify a dehumidifier suitable for the proposed storage environment.
While a complete Humiscope supplied room was initially considered, Magnus Kahl Seeds ultimately arranged the cool room locally. Humiscope's role was to size and supply the dehumidifier required to maintain the specified humidity conditions within the room.
The dehumidifier operates alongside the cool room refrigeration system, allowing temperature and humidity to be controlled independently and providing a more stable environment for the stored seed.
The finished room incorporates dedicated refrigeration and dehumidification equipment, with product positioning designed to maintain suitable airflow throughout the storage area.

THE OUTCOME

After approximately one month of operation, Magnus Kahl Seeds reported that both the cool room and dehumidifier were performing very well and maintaining their targeted 3-5°C and 30-35% RH.
The room currently stores approximately 2,520 kg of seed across two product lines.
Seed is stored in 10 kg metal pails, with spacing maintained between the pails to allow adequate airflow around the product.
